About Little Rascals Pre-Prep

Welcome to Little Rascals Pre-Prep

Providing coeducation for children aged 3yrs plus, where children arrive excited and ready to learn. We encourage children to develop and build upon their abilities in all areas of learning and take pride in their achievements.  The Pre-Prep Manager Charlotte Nash has a wealth of experience in childcare, and together with her Pre-Prep team and Early Years Teacher, Rachel Cooper, helps to prepare each and every child for their next steps in education.

Within the structured Pre-Prep day, children quickly gain independence, self-confidence and an enthusiasm for learning.  Emphasis is placed on trying one’s best, and being kind and tolerant of others and their points of view. Our innovative and exciting curriculum encourages the children to develop all the characteristics needed for effective learning. We work in partnership with parents to prepare children for entry into a range of well regarded schools in the local and surrounding areas.

The learning environment at Little Rascals Pre-Prep is equipped with state of the art educational resources, making it suitable for a variety of activities, either child led or teacher led.  Each day, the team nurture the children’s natural curiosity, creativity and critical thinking, through fun, play-based tasks. This helps them to become independent and to think for themselves.  Initiative is praised and the resulting self-confidence helps children develop a positive attitude towards learning.

Younger Pre-Prep Children

Our younger Pre-Prep children are located on the lower floor of the homely Edwardian building.  The area is split into small learning bays which encompass the seven areas of learning from the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, within 3 large rooms.  The environment is spacious, with the renowned high ceilings of buildings from this era, which provides the younger Pre-Prep children with an exceptionally light and airy space.  Staff deploy themselves among the learning bays to steer and stretch each child’s learning.

Older Pre-Prep Children

Our Older Pre-Prep children are based on the upper floor of this beautiful building.  Children have access to 3 rooms which are divided into learning areas which will stimulate, broaden, and extend your child’s learning.  The resources are bespoke to the Pre-Prep and have been sourced outside the UK, bringing a unique experience for your child.

Literacy

Our pupils will take part in Read, Write Inc. sessions up to three times a week.  Local schools are using this method, so the programme will provide continuity and a smooth transition for your child when they move on to school.  The children will be introduced to the graphemes and phonemes (letters and sounds) necessary to become confident, independent readers and writers.

The children are regularly assessed to establish their proficiency in phonics and grouped accordingly. By the time they leave Little Rascals Pre-Prep, most children will have successfully completed set 1 and will be entering into set 2 or 3.

The programme of study begins in Early Years with simple Set 1 sounds, sound box activities, role play and early handwritten letter formation. The next stage involves simple ditties, blending (Set 2) sounds and further written tasks.  The learning is all presented to the children in a fun and exciting way.

Maths

Mathematics is a key part of the curriculum at Little Rascals Pre-Prep, and building familiarity and confidence in this area is vital.  The key to achieving this is to make maths as fun and stimulating as possible. Children are introduced to Numeracy through practical, mental, and written mathematical activities, differentiated according to their age and ability. We will introduce a topic to the whole class each day and the children then follow this up by working in small groups, to reinforce their understanding.

Science

Science is a key subject, enabling students to understand the world around them and how it works. At Little Rascals, we pride ourselves on the range and depth of practical activities in which the students engage, right from the start of their education. Throughout each term, we will incorporate a range of practical experiments to coincide with our current topic.  This will enable children to develop their skills and acquire knowledge in a fun and stimulating way.
